Travel Itinerary
D1-Morning - Family-Friendly Forbidden City Route
Entering through the Meridian Gate, the tour follows a curated family-friendly route through the Forbidden City — one built around stories rather than architectural chronology. Your guide explains an emperor's daily schedule, the symbolism behind the palace's red walls and yellow rooftops, the meaning of the mythical creatures lining the eaves, and the lives of the children who grew up inside these walls. The route is paced with young visitors in mind, with built-in stops for photos, questions, and rest.
Lunch is arranged at a family-friendly restaurant near the palace district, with a menu that balances classic Beijing flavors with options that are accessible to younger palates.
D1-Afternoon - Jingshan Park & Hands-On Workshop
A short walk north of the Forbidden City, Jingshan Park offers the city's best aerial view of the palace complex from the Wanchun Pavilion — a moment that tends to produce genuine awe in visitors of all ages when they see the sheer scale of the Forbidden City from above. After the viewpoint, the afternoon shifts to a hands-on cultural workshop. This is a deliberate change of pace — participatory, creative, and genuinely engaging for children.
Custom options:
- calligraphy
- kite-making
- opera mask painting
- paper-cutting
D2-Morning - Drive to Mutianyu Great Wall
After breakfast at the hotel, your guide and driver collect you for the approximately 1.5- 2-hour drive to Mutianyu. Your guide uses the journey to build anticipation — sharing age-appropriate stories about why the Wall was built, how long it took, how many people worked on it, and what life was like for the soldiers who guarded it. By the time the Wall comes into view through the forested hills, children are ready to see it.
On arrival at Mutianyu, the family sits down for a relaxed, family-friendly lunch at a restaurant near the entrance before heading up.
D2-Afternoon - Great Wall Exploration
At the end of the visit, families return from the Great Wall via the same easy, child-friendly walking route.
Custom options:
- Cable car for ascent or descent
- Toboggan slide for descent
After leaving the Wall, your driver will take you back to your hotel or onward transfer point, bringing the day to a relaxed and family-friendly close.
