Your guide explains the urban logic of the imperial capital: how the towers anchored the northern axis of the city, how the surrounding neighborhoods grew up around them, and how this area has been continuously inhabited for over seven centuries. The walk begins here, at street level, in one of Beijing's most atmospheric and least touristy old-city zones.

From the towers, the tour moves into the lanes themselves. Beijing's hutongs are more than picturesque alleyways — they are a living record of how families, communities, and a whole urban culture organized itself around the siheyuan, or four-sided courtyard home. Your guide walks you through residential hutongs that most visitors never enter, pointing out the architectural details, the gate styles that once signaled a household's rank, the communal wells, and the small details of daily life still visible in these lanes today. The pace is unhurried; there is time to stop, look, and ask questions.
정오 - 베이징 현지식 점심
점심 is arranged at a local restaurant serving classic Beijing flavors. The centerpiece is zhajiang noodles — thick wheat noodles topped with a slow-cooked fermented soybean paste sauce and fresh vegetables — a dish that has been a Beijing staple for generations. Depending on your group's preferences, your guide can also arrange a broader selection of Beijing snacks and small dishes, or a slightly more international-friendly menu. Either way, your guide explains what you are eating and why it matters to the city's food identity.
